June 16 – Diving on Koh Tao

We hooked up with Big Bubble, a dive outfit in the nearest town–an easy walk up the dock from our villa (no more tangling with the drive over the mountain). Big Bubble operates out of repurposed Thai fishing vessel with a German/Austrian/Australian staff and a live-aboard Burmese crew. Koh Tao was getting winds from the southwest monsoon, so we had some rough seas, and that dictated where we could dive. But once we got to where we were going and got into the water, the diving was great. The fish were not as plentiful as what we see in the Caribbean, but the coral was much more spectacular and in much better condition. We did two dives: Aow Leuk and 4 Rocks. After diving, we walked back along the dock, stopping off at a little seaside restaurant for some tom yum, curry, and Thai iced coffee.
